The California Poppy is done with machine thread painting on muslin and soluble fabric.

wow. That is fantastic. I love that it is 3-D. What is under the thread? is it something stiff or is it just fabric?

Thanks so much! The 3D part is all thread as it was sewn on soluble fabric and the soluble was then washed away.

This is absolutely gorgeous!  I hadn't thought of doing thread painting on soluble before.  It looks like you built up a fairly large layer of thread before washing out the stabilizer.  I would love to see a picture of the entire piece.

I would love to see an article in Quilting arts showing how you managed to combine the 2-Dand the 3-D so smoothly. Yum!
