Alabama Hills

I'm crazy for rocks, and several years ago DH and I spent some time in the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, CA.  I took tons of pictures of these incredible rock formations, never thinking that someday I would translate the images into fiber art.  In this instance, I changed the color scheme a little to make a warmer composition, but tried to retain the light/dark of the sun and shadow.  I hand-dyed all the fabric used, fused the pieces to a muslin backing, then used free motion stitching to add detail.  This is the first of a series of rock Art Quilts, and was followed by 'Canyon' and 'Devil's Postpile'.   Finished piece measures 29 1/8" x 21".
