Our “‘Rock On!’ Reader Challenge Results, Part II” (see page 64 in the
June/July 2009 issue) included many fabulous pieces that celebrate rock ‘n’
roll. Debbi Crane’s “American Boy” was featured there. Here’s another piece by
Debbi.
“And She Was”
“…the world was spinning
She was floating above it and she was…”
“Indiana
University showed midnight movies at the Union. One night I saw the Talking
Heads’ movie ‘Burning Down the house’ and I fell in love…with David Byrne. I
didn’t really know what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I knew what I wanted
to listen to on my Walkman: Talking Heads. I wore out my ‘Little Creatures’
cassette. To this day, when ‘And She Was’ comes onto my car radio, I crank it
up and play air drums at stoplights.”
