Flower Applique, "Johnny's Jump-Ups"

This is a small wall hanging art quilt that I finished yesterday. I wanted to capture the beautiful colors of my Johnny Jump Ups that are blooming in my garden

I drew the patterns and cut them out of 100% white cotton. Each petal has a front and back and is lined with low loft batting. Once each petal was sewn and turned right side out, I hand painted them with dye so that each petal had it's own personality. I attached them to the black and white background with stitch witchery and glue. I added a few seed beads to look like the "dew" I saw the morning I took the photos. I added a backing and just stitched the front and back together and turned right side out. I plan to hang this in my Master Bath over my Jacuzzi Tub. I have decorated my bathroom to look like an English Country Garden. I think I will hang it up with ribbon connected to the two top corners.

Very nice, i would imagine the wallhanging to be 3 dimensional since you lined each petal with batting and then turned it.  The background makes the flowers really standout.  Thanks for sharing it.

Thank you. I had fun making this. Making the small "sampler" size quilts are quick projects that you can learn new techniques with. Or you can teach yourself something new and if you did not enjoy the project, drop it and go on to the nest learning project. There are so many wonderful pieces of work here. I would love to learn each one, but there is not enough time. Everyone is so talented. Thanks again
