A Close Shave

A Close Shave  - Journal Quilt.  I created this as a class sample for a Permission 2 Play Class at JanniLou Creations Quilt Shop.  This was created using a base of shaving cream, dye na flow paints sprinkled on top, swirled with a toothpick, then silk was placed on top to make the print.  It was later appliqued onto batik fabric, layered on batting and backing fabric, free motion quilted with a couching foot, and fused binding.

This is very cool. The black free motion (a brave move) looks wonderful.

Hi roycecreative........thanks for your supportive words.  I just followed my instincts on this piece....those black paint splotches in the center kept calling out for black in the border.  I decided to try out my new free-motion couching foot and it worked beautifully with the black cord.  I have never thought of myself as brave......thanks for the vote of confidence!

There is a shave cream printing tutorial on my blog.....if you are interested in learning this technique.
