If....I understand you correctly, then ........I used a polyester batting, then a cotton backing.  BUT...before the cotton backing..I machine stitched around & in the flowers & petals. I made French knots  ( the purple dots, that you see ). the yellow pistils, etc.. embroidered.  The tiny white-daisy like flowers.. also embroidered...Anymore questions, just let me know.  I love it that you are interested.
