Award-winning quilt artist
Melinda Bula started out working in the interior design field designing
wallpaper and fabric. Now she is designing beautiful quilts and wearable art,
which have always been her first loves.
Using only fabric and thread, Melinda creates fabric paintings, demonstrating how the careful choosing of fabrics can give the impression of using paint.
Her sense of color and design
has won her numerous awards. Best of Show
2004 at Pacific International Quilt Festival for the wearable art, Grapevine, and most recently, Best of Show 2008 at Road To California
for Monterey At Dusk. Recently, she also won a 1st and 3rd place and Viewers Choice in Paducah in 2009 as well as Best of Show at IQA Chicago in the spring of 2009.
Melinda has been the
featured artist on The Quilt Show.com with Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson and has written 2 books, Cutting Garden Quilts and Candy Cane Lane, both published by Martingale Press.
Melinda has been teaching her
techniques for the last 8 years. She finds teaching and inspiring others on their creative
journey thrilling, particularly when a student is able to grasp Melinda's technique and combine it with their own style and personality to create a truly unique reflection of themselves.
Melinda Bula lives in El Dorado Hills, Ca. with
her husband, Joe. Their son, Matt, recently graduated from college with a mathematics degree and
is now a proud United States Marine.
