I grew up watching my mom sew. She was amazing! She was never a quilter but I will never forget how she could take a sketch from my sister for a prom dress, create the pattern pieces from news paper and turn out an amazing dress! I always intended to go spend a summer at home and learn to sew with her but life married to a Marine gets crazy sometimes and living all the way across the country didn't help. Sadly, I lost both my parents in 2009 before I got my chance tolearn from my mom. I returned to North Carolina after my Mom's funeral with a new determination to learn. I stumbled into a quilting shop in my area and it turns out they offered classes so I started with basic quilting and basic sewing and off I went. I fell in love with sewing in general and found a creative outlet that I had not had for a long time.
I've been looking for a way to break out of the quilting 'box' and the owner of my favorite shop mentioned art quilting to me recently so I started doing some research. I am really looking forward to trying some new techniques and adding other elements to my quilts beside my fabric options.
I am really interested in applique and memory quilts but after reading about dyeing and surface design and whole new world is opening here. I can not wait to learn and get into my sewing room to play!
