Black & White Heron

I really wanted to make a black and white art quilt , I pieced the background in black fabric pieces and tried to use white and lighter scraps for the Heron, added some metallic thread in the background for some shine, used some black and white lutradur for some free hanging feather pieces, and added a clear chrystal for the eye.  I love to paint birds but this time I wanted to express myself in fabric.  Thanks to Quilting Arts I have been combining my love of painting with my love of sewing.  I have really been having fun trying new things.  Thank you so much for all of the great ideas.

About Judy709

I really love to paint and I love to sew. Thanks to Quilting Arts I have been getting better at combining the two. I remember the day I first saw one of your magazines. I was speechless, thinking this is what I have always wanted to do. I have been learning and trying so many different things since that day. The hardest part for me was to let go of perfection and let myself have fun, not to worry about failing but to learn from my mistakes. I play a lot now and I fail a lot now but I have learned so much more than I would of thought possible.

  1. I love your heron.  It really is effective making it in black and white.  I did a bird a few years ago and am still enjoying looking at it on my bedroom wall.  Enjoy.

  2. Wonderful! I love birds and have been attempting some, with plans for more, including a heron, in my future fabric projects.  Love your choice of fabrics and depiction of the feathers – very inspiring.  Well done 🙂

  3. This is a wonderful piece.  Using black and white to create a Blue Heron is a wonderful idea.  I wonder what it would look like if you tried one in blue and white?
