Canvas Mounted Thistle

This is my first attempt at thread painting.  I took a photograph of a thistle and fixed some things in Photo Shop then thread painted the thistle.  I then painted a canvas to resemble the thistle background.  That took 3-4 tries before I was happy.  It still is drab but that is just how the back ground is.  I used eyelets on the corners then threaded pearl cotton through and around to the back and stappled it down.  The canvas is 9×12 and the little quilt is 8×7.  I satin stitched around the edges.

  1. Thanks for the nice comments.  I agree the background is drab but I was going for a blending of the photo to canvas.  I have another picture that I want to try this with and will jazz up the background this time.  I’m waiting on more thread to arrive.  I think this will turn me into a true thread -aholic.

  2. Very captivating piece, your bright thistle bloom stands out wonderfully against your “drab” background. I am intrigued about how you got the image onto fabric. I’m assuming you’ve thread painted over a printed image.
