This is the first time I have made a fiber art piece that is 3D. Made with hand dyed gauze around a armature. The face is molded paper. The hair is moss, lichen and roots with some dyed gauze intertwined that I found on my property. I would really appreciate feedback on this piece. It is about 23 inches long.

  1. Lana, this is by far the best thing I have seen from you.  You have a real talent for sculpting.  Very nice composition.  I love the layers of fabric and texture.  The rolled tubes are wonderful.  The hair is great.  More of these, please!

  2. Thanks Deborah for your comment. I really didn’t know where I was going with this when I started but I knew I wanted to do something on the chrysalis theme. It was fun to do and really took a lot of hours to put together but I think I would like to do more of this kind. I appreciate your comment.

  3. This is FABULOUS! I really love mixed media pieces and this is a great example. I love everything about it. I bet it’s even more spectacular in person.

  4. csmendola—thanks so much for that inspiring comment. Im glad you like this piece. You are welcome to check out my blog at I’ve been pretty lazy in posting lately but there is some more pieces on my blog you might like. I like mixed media pieces too. It is more fun and interesting to me. Chrysalis took a long time to make as it is all hand stitched and I had never made a paper face before so didn’t really know what I was doing. It was fun to do though.
