Coleus Up Close

I was inspired by the different colors and textures in the coleus leaves to experiement with different fabrics.  The leaves are each made individually – stitched and turned – and then I fused additional fabric on some before thread sketching the veins by machine.  I stitched each leaf to the background, scrunching them up a little to give them realistic shapes. This piece measures 29" x 23" and was a lot of fun to make!  Fabrics include cottons, batiks, velvet, taffeta, suede cloth, and satin.  The salvia is hand stitched yarn.
