This art quilt was inspired by my visit to my husband's family's old homestead. The 19th century log home is falling to ruins, overgrown and covered with vines, but I imagined all the lives lived and stories held in those walls. A 1953 photograph of a family reunion in front of this home became the source for ghostly imagery in this quilt.
At first glance, there seems to be nothing unusual. But upon closer inspection, the faces appear….in the dark wooden wall of the house, on the pale grey roof of the lean-to, and in the open doorway of the lean-to is a close-up of my husbands parents' faces.
As a creator of "story quilts", I love to use imagery and symbolism to tell a greater story than might initially appear.
