The is my very first attempt at quilting so I decided to go small. I used a 10" x 12" oval mat and quilted the ocean scene using several different types of fabrics, fine white and mauve netting, antique lace, pearls, necklace charms (star fish and sea horse), seed beads, 1/8" silver stars, and items I've found when walking (weathered sticks, shells, dried grasses, moss, etc.) I layered and attached the tems and stitched across the water with silver/blue metalic thread so when light hits the quilt it appears as though the moon is reflecting on the calmer more distant ocean.
Not sure how to frame it…Thinking of using a 2-3 inch deep shadow box with sand and some of the items in front of the scene, rather than on the mat (since it appears a bit cluttered). Open to ideas if you have any.
Just finished my second quilted picture…I will post it next.
