Sound of Silence

Sound of Silence is based on a photograph of an old country church here in Michigan.  The church was decorated for Christmas so I wanted to maintain that theme with the quilt.  I thread sketched the snow banks to make the snow look like the wind had blown over the snow.  The garland around the church door is thread lace.  The 2 spruce trees are adorned with Swarovski crystals to give the effect of snow glistening on the boughs.  The tree branches were also thread sketched to give the feel of a cold winter's day.  The rabbits are just a bit of whimsy…..I have 2 that live in the yard and they are very cute as they eat my tulips….the tails are made from wool that is from a local farm.  I have tried to give this quilt a cold but cozy feel.  Thanks for taking a look.  Peggy from Michigan

  2. Thank you!  The photo doesn’t really do the quilt justice.  I had fun working with this little church.  Still trying to find some history on it….but, so far, none.  Peg

  4. Hi Anne,  Thanks for taking a look at the quilt.  I really thought long and hard about how to make this quilt look like winter, but still have a warm feeling.  Try thread sketching on a small project. I always put on nice soft relaxing music and just start stitching.  It is not hard and really does make a quilt “pop”.  Peggy
