Patricia: "This pieced-fish composition was created as a test border for a larger quilt. I was not satisfied with the contrast of the fish or overall look of my idea. At one point I thought I'd make the sample into a pillow, hence the pink frame around the water scene. Languishing in a box with other rejects, I have resurrected this UFO for the challenge and swap."

Alicia: "When I received this UFO my choices were to continue with the fish in the ocean theme that the original artist had, or completely change the design using pieces from this quilt in an entirely different way. To make the water color coordinate I covered the entire piece in blue organza then cut out the fish shapes to reveal the original fabric. I added a metallic mesh to one fish and began stitching and painting to add interest to the other fish. Fins added dimension and color and crystals brought sparkle to the fish. The snorkel mask and crossed eyes were added as I imagined a child looking into the ocean for the first time. The mast is positioned under organza to indicate that the swimmer is looking through the water. The quilting followed the plants in the water fabric and additional quilting depicts seaweed floating tall in the water."
