View from my window

I made this quilt for my grandson, Duncan, on his 4th birthday.  It represents all the animals in or near his bedroom window when he visits us:  white-tailed deer, turkey, armadillo, squirrels, hummingbirds, monarch butterflies, owl.  The tree is our over 60 year old pecan.  The night sky has the crescent moon, Jupiter and Venus which we viewed together in our southwestern sky.  I used a variety of thread techniques.  On the pecan leaves, I used two strands of polyester embroidery thread in different greens.  On the turkey, I used a heavy cotton embroidery floss in the bobbin and pulled it upward.  The monarch butterflies were entirely thread painted, cut out, and appliqued to this quilt.  I machine quilted it.
