  1. I used to have painting classes in my shop though I did not do them I learned alot.  You got a fair idea going but, you have not done any shading.  Pick the side you want for a sun to shine on it and make that side lighter on everything to make it look round.  They have paint sticks you can buy to accomplish that.  Play on  extra fabric not the real thing.  I got rock fabric and looks like that is what you used.  shade them a little too.  The cardinals would be a nice focal point in a brighter red.  Even the snow could have shaded mounds.  Anyway that might give you some good ideas you can work with.  When snow hits those leaves would fallen early.  Make more branching out and you can even paint in some twigs.  Just a added thought.

  2. HI Janice,  A very nice scene for a quilt!  2 things that I would think about if I were making this quilt……I think the snowbank should be layered.  That would give the quilt more dimension.  Take a look at my Sound of Silence on my page…..look at the snow.  Also, my eye goes directly to the rocks.  I would find a few nice rock looking batiks and free form cut some rocks.  By free form I mean, fuse your fabric with Wonder Under, and then just randomly cut out your rocks.  No need for a pattern.  Also, when you look at my gallery take a took at Lake Superior Agate Beach…..look at my rock cliff.  All of the rocks were free form cut, I did this to give the cliff a natural feel.  Keep tweaking your quilt until you stand back and say “done”.  You are doing great. Peggy
