  • Closeup of Great Blue Heron - A Very Grey Day

Closeup of the Great Blue Heron from my piece "A Very Grey Day". Cut and fused individual feather patterns from a small scrap of patterned fabric. Affixed with a decorative stitch using monofilament thread. Very finicky - but a fun challenge! http://www.quiltingdaily.com/media/p/52164.aspx...

  • Bird Nest Quilt

This is a small quilt piece I created using many scraps, fiber, threads and fragments to make a nest. I inserted a fabric transfer bird into the middle. I further embellished the work with beads, buttons, and a small twig. I like to save my little scraps and threads in a little basket next to my sewing...

I hand pieced the background using my hand dyed and painted fabrics. The coot and the shadows in the water are hand appliqued again with my fabric. Here is the photo...

This one was hand dyed with monoprinting and I dragged combs of thickened dye over the surface. Then I painted on the tree branch. I thread painted the branch and leaves, added extra batting behind the bird for dimention, and the nest and egg are paper glued to the surface, then sewn.

I have so many inner animals but with the cold snap, my inner flamingo wants to fly south! I though that a sunny warm flamingo was perfect. I used my own photo, created a poster image pattern, misty fuse, bright fabric and thread to help bring out my flamingo.
