  • Dunes and Ocean

I'm new to art quilting and would love feedback. I want to learn more about perspective, shadowing, stitching in details... The actual size is about 14"x20". It depicts a mail box along the beach at Bird Island, Sunset Beach, NC. See what you think and thanks for looking. Hugs from Mary

  • Checks & Balances: Art Quilt by Caryl Bryer Fallert

This quilt is a visual interpretation of a philosophical concept. "Checks and Balances" is a term most of us first heard in our high school civics classes, an idea to which we aspire in government and in the world around us, and often fall short. Perhaps the best way to achieve balance is to...

  • Birds in Flight

I took a class with Pam Holland when she came to San Miguel Allende, Mexico. We learned how to apply inks, dye fabric, and free motion quilt among other wonderful things. This is my final piece. I used ink-tense color pencils and sukineko inks. I had thought of embroidering french knots but when I found...

  • Finishing my piece

This is silk, fused to muslin, backed with batting and fabric and then free-motion quilted. I like it all, but am wondering about the lake at the bottom. Does it work? I think it might be better without, maybe just some more mountains..but I'm not sure. Also for a border, I'm thinking brown silk...

  • Quilted tags book

This Is a series I'm working on using memories and photos from our vacation last year to DC. I got the idea from a QA challenge on post cards and a book I found on fabric books. It's been a lot of fun. The first one came out very well. I printed a map and then I overdyed it. Hand drew with a...

  • Beneath The Surface

Layers of collage begin with two similar fabrics. One is used for the background and the other is cut into organic shapes to be fused to the surface. Textile paint, angelina, buttons, metal rings and beads are added. Over the angelina, a slice of a geode is applied.

  • Ocean Wave Wall Hanging Art Quilt...

This is a recent project I completed for my mother. You can also see my entire web posting about it at : http://auraquilts.com/archives/305 This was the first quilt block that I hand pieced for my mother’s quilt. I hated the fabrics combined so I set it aside for over three years thinking I would...

  • Cravings

This piece has just been hung over our mantle. The name comes from my need to add red to our living room. I also crave using, seeing and feeling the fancy fabric used in making this piece. The final craving is doing the free motion quilting. That's the part I enjoy the most.

  • Stuck, stuck, stuck!

I started this piece with some of my hand-dyes a couple of weeks ago, went like gangbusters on it for a while and now I seem to have fallen off the inspiration train with a splat. I just don't know where to go from here- if anywhere (I'm asking myself if the piece even worth it. Not sure, yet...
