  • Re: Dunes and Ocean

I hit the jack pot when I asked for guidance. I've learned so much from the comments. I want you all to know that I did add foam to the edge of the water with thread sketching. I pulled the water onto the sand just off the center line. I aged the mailbox with gray oil pastels. And I beefed up the...

  • Dunes and Ocean

I'm new to art quilting and would love feedback. I want to learn more about perspective, shadowing, stitching in details... The actual size is about 14"x20". It depicts a mail box along the beach at Bird Island, Sunset Beach, NC. See what you think and thanks for looking. Hugs from Mary

  • Finishing my piece

This is silk, fused to muslin, backed with batting and fabric and then free-motion quilted. I like it all, but am wondering about the lake at the bottom. Does it work? I think it might be better without, maybe just some more mountains..but I'm not sure. Also for a border, I'm thinking brown silk...

  • Barn

I have always loved barns, probably since I grew up in Vermont! I can see doing a series of barns in quilts. I had fun trying different free motion machine stitches. The top is raw edge pieces fused to muslin, then machine stitched. The sky buckles a bit so I can see I need to work on my techniques but...

  • Ants Blowing Bubbles

This is a bug's eye view of tall grass and bubbles. It's machine quilted with "windy" stitches.

  • 40th Anniversary

This was a quilt I made for my parents 40th Anniversary. I didn't know what to buy them, so last minute I desided to make a wallhanging. I made this in a week and a half!!! It is full of symbolizm (?) The blue background was hand dyed, it's my mothers favorite color. The poem is a poem I wrote...

  • Ares

Inspired by a class with Lorraine Torrence, where she taught us her technique of zigzagging fabric on a background and covering with bias tape, I fused, painted, embelished, embroidered, and free motion quilted to create this first third of a 'celestial' tryptic.

  • Barn Quilt 1 close up

I took this picture of a barn I used to see 5 days a week while I drove for Napa Auto Parts. I just love it and we are loosing our barns at an alarming rate in our area. They are either burning down or being torn down or the wind just blows them over. Anyway, I love this one and thus the quilt. I traced...
