  • Embossing Supplies

Hi, Not sure if this should go here or in Surface Design, but here goes. I saw an episode that used embossing powder- I'd like to try it but am confused on what all I need and where to buy the stuff. Can someone give me a list of everything to make it work and the best place to buy it all? I looked...

  • Along Our River

This 18"x23" quilt was made for our quilt guild challenge, Along the River. The river needed to enter on the left side and exit on the right side of the quilt so I chose the Hudson River as it meanders through our area of the lower Adirondacks. I enlarged a map of the river and used it to arrange...

  • Help with Resist Painting

Hi Everyone, My question is about what's the best way to paint a resist design on fabric. I've used the Elmer's blue glue, and it drives me crazy - the dye I used to paint over it washes out quicker than the glue!!! I used Dye-na-flow, and I now have a very faded piece of fabric with hard...

What can you do with the 4 inches of space behind the door? I didn't think you could do much but I was wrong. All my small bottles of paint, brushes and mediums are finally within reach. For so many years all of the stuff was in boxes or stands and quite a pain to access. Now I find I'm experimenting...

  • Re: Opinions on online courses

I have taken 5 classes at QuiltUniversity.com. It's terrific! They post new lessons every friday so you can begin working on your new homework that weekend. Most classes run from 3 to 6 weeks. They have a forum where you can post questions and interact with other students which is very helpful. Most...

  • Re: Magic Markers and Quilts??

I have been doing a lot of fabric painting lately. I use fabric paints and have been very pleased with the results. You can probably find examples and demonstrations on YouTube. I have used a book called "Off the Shelf Fabric Painting". It has many different ways to use the paint with photos...

  • "imagine" was created with Timtex, foiling, Mistyfuse, grungeboard and paint.

"imagine" was created with Timtex, foiling, Mistyfuse, grungeboard letters and paint. It has a wonderfully iridescent surface due to an underlayer of foiling on the timtex surface that was applied before painting. Measures 5"x7"

  • Re: "Steam a Seam 2 and paintI

Hi Karen! If you go to Marcy Tilton's website she has a downloadable pdf preview of her "On the Surface" CD - on page 7 (of 13) her process of painting on fusible web is discussed a bit more fully. The URL is http://www.marcytilton.com/index.php?cid=129 . I found that this short excerpt...

  • Barn Quilt 1

I used a photo I had taken to trace the image to fabric. I then used watercolor pencils to "color" the barn and used alo vera gel to "paint" over the pencil. I then used fabric from my stash to create the rest of the scene. The barn image is just 8.5x11 but I used the heavy backing...

  • Anne Boleyn

My portrait of Anne Boleyn, second and most famous wife of Henry VIII of England. Anne is painted in acrylic. Her headdress is collaged from a reproduction of a letter from Henry to her, declaring his undying love. Other paper and ink elements are used in the piece, including a reproduction of Anne's...
