  • Re: Forum Challenge - It's My Nature

"Peachy Posy" is among many FIRSTS in my life recently! We had a stormy Montana spring and those rainy skies became the inspiration for this design which began first as a sketch while longingly gazing out the window. It represents many "firsts" in my life, one of which was a time...

  • Some One to Watch Over Me

A little bit of a departure for me, in that this piece is somewhat abstract. I was trying for a different type of angel. A wholecloth art quilt. The background was painted to resent a night sky and the angel was thread painted and then quilted. Then various painted details were added. This was donated...

  • persimmon

I saw this from a page in a calendar but can't remember where it came from - all of each leaf was individully painted and then appliqued to the background. I use sateen fabric to paint the persimmon on to give it abit of a sheen then it was appliqued down. It was 20x20. Some of the fabrics used were...

  • Ink Quilting Project

This piece was an experiment in which I traced the pattern on a light table to a piece of natural muslin. I also used the same muslin for the backing and a piece of fleece as my batting. Some doubted that I would be able to quilt the design as it was too detailed, but I needed to try it anyway. It quilted...

  • Beneath The Surface

Layers of collage begin with two similar fabrics. One is used for the background and the other is cut into organic shapes to be fused to the surface. Textile paint, angelina, buttons, metal rings and beads are added. Over the angelina, a slice of a geode is applied.

This trio of art quilts that I've been working on here and there for six months. Finally hung on my bedroom wall, but still not sure if they're finished!

  • Re: definition of a quilt

Being a non quilter I've always wondered this too. Particularly when an official bod answered my query with "the usual two layers" - errrrrrm I thought "the usual" was THREE layers. Then someone went to a show and came back and told me there was a piece made up of broken china...
