Hi there – my name is Kate and I live in Texas with my husband, a little yorkie-dog-person named Sancho (aka Artdog), a pesky Inner Critic and a lovely Creative Muse. I’m pretty sure only the last two are figments of my imagination. I found my way to Texas by way of Oregon. It’s a long story but suffice it to say somewhere inside me there is this hippie girl/cowgirl/artgirl who is still very much a work in progress. I’m a self-taught artist with no formal art training who doesn’t know much about the rules of art but has learned alot from playing with my art pals.
Originally (read: a long time ago) I began my art quest by teaching myself to make quilts for my children and other more traditional sewing projects around the house. I’ve taken a couple courses over the years (doll making, self-expression class). My next major discovery was the delightful world of fabric postcards, little pieces of art that magically appeared in my mailbox and inspired me to follow my creative muse trying new techniques and eventually leading me to art quilts. I recently made and exchanged my first ATCs!
That’s about it except for being a fledgling art quilter, venturing into mixed media. I used to be afraid of paper and paint and fabric and any combination thereof and now they are staples on my worktable. The possibilities are limited only by the imagination (and that annoying Inner Critic).
