Quick Baby Shower Gifts

It’s spring, the sun is out, the birds are singing, and everyone is feeling a little bit twitterpated. With this season comes weddings, and babies, babies, babies! I know babies are born every day, but doesn’t there seem to be more baby showers and friends having babies this time of year? With lots of baby showers comes the baby shower gift. I am a firm believer that every baby deserves something handmade—whether it is a cute quilt made from a baby quilt panel, special burp cloths for a friend, or a stuffed animal.

As I have several friends either just entering parenthood or about to, I need some baby shower gifts that I can whip up quickly but that look nice and are practical (babies have a lot of stuff, so I like to give gifts that serve a purpose). Lucky for me, The Quilting Company has just released a new eBook, The Best of Baby Shower and Nursery Gifts. This book highlights six projects to welcome baby.

Two of my favorite projects from this book are the diaper bag (I had never even thought of making one!) and the burp cloth pattern.

Check out this amazing diaper bag!

I don’t know anyone with a handmade diaper bag but I do know lots of people who wish the diaper bag options came in more colors and prints. Here’s the answer: make your own! Customize the bag to fit mom’s (or dad’s!) style and they will sport that diaper bag with pride! This bag, designed by Liz Porter and made by Anne Welker is chock full of helpful pockets for any new parents to stash all that baby gear!

Babies smell great, right?

Baby spit up…not so much! Grab one of these burp clothes to absorb all of those little messes. These cute clothes sew up in no time. Made from flannel they are absorbent, but also gently stick to your clothes so they don’t slip off during a burping session. So smart! The addition of rickrack adds a special touch. Gather up all of that leftover flannel and make a large stack for a friend, and to have some on hand for those surprise babies as well!

Looking to make a quilt but short on time? I recommend this baby panel quilt—soft chenille panels make up this adorable sheep! I can’t stand how sweet it is!
