Our best-selling online course is back and better than ever! APQS Longarm Certification Sponsored by Quilting Daily has been revised and updated. Are you fascinated by quilts with fun illusions? You know, those quilts that make you stop in your tracks to take a second look? We recently asked designers to create their own quilts of illusion for our special Pre-Cut Friendly Magic Block Quilt Patterns e-book. From designs with movement and dimension to disappearing blocks, we were presented with some amazing quilts–and they were all made with pre-cuts! For Made in the Shade, Scott Flanagan used a collection of 2½” pre-cut strips. Don’t you love how he created dimension by using black strips for “shadows?” The blocks look like they are floating over the quilt top.

Bea Lea also used pre-cut strips for her Changing Gears design. It’s an easy-to-piece quilt, but you’ll want to utilize your design wall to organize your patches before assembling this beguiling throw.

Check out Melissa Corry’s Magic Trick quilt. The graphic red, black, and white blocks are made from 5” charm squares and 2½” pre-cut strips. Can you spot her simple blocks? (Here’s a hint: they’re not set on-point.)

We were especially intrigued by disappearing block quilts like Abigail Dolinger’s fun Weaving a Spell throw. She carefully sliced and diced Nine-Patches made from some 5” tone-on-tone squares to create a charming, woven-look.

My Bewitching Hour quilt was inspired by the traditional Delectable Mountain block. With triangle-squares made from an eye-catching collection of 10” squares, I was able to quickly assemble the top in one weekend. (Okay, I did get a little carried away playing with block arrangements.)
