This upscale quilting retreat offers the perfect mix of education and relaxation. Spend two full days receiving one-on-one instruction from world-renowned quilters and hosts of Love of Quilting TV, Sara Gallegos and Angela Huffman. All materials are provided for piecing the two quilt tops, so there’s no need to pack anything but creativity. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn new techniques and quilt alongside the best.

And of course, there will be plenty of time to relax and socialize with your fellow quilters. You’ll spend three nights at Denver’s newest, upscale boutique hotel, The Slate. All meals will be provided, so you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy doing nothing but quilting!

Pickled Pink with Sara Gallegos

Specific Technique(s) Taught: Curved piecing, Kite block two ways
Workshop Skill Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: Accurate ¼” seam allowance is a must for success!

Add a pop of color to your quilting with this vibrant pattern, perfect for seasoned quilters wanting to make something new and fresh! In this workshop, join Sara to learn her simple, 3-pin method for curved piecing! Colorful solids come together to create jazzy Pickle Dish blocks that make an eye-catching quilt.

All fabric will be provided by Riley Blake Designs. You’re sure to be tickled pink with the finished product!

Meet the Expert: Sara Gallegos

Host of PBS’ Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting & Co-Owner of Decorative Stitch in Shelby Twp, MI, Sara Gallegos spreads inspiration & shares her adventures as a traveling sewing personality! She loves sharing time saving ways to incorporate sewing machine features & techniques into all types of sewing. Join her for a class and you are sure to leave with new, creative ideas, inspiration, and lots of giggles!

Blue Ridge Love with Angela Huffman

Specific Technique(s) Taught: The use of modified strip sets, machine applique, non-mirrored hourglass units, floating borders
Workshop Skill Level: All levels
Prerequisites: None

The traditional, delectable mountains block is trimmed in a clever way to result in square units that can spin and bloom into captivating blocks. This wall-hanging is a smaller version of the original that was featured on the Love of Quilting PBS show and in the Love of Quilting magazine. It was made to celebrate Angela’s recent wedding in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina!

You’ll love seeing the large version as you put the techniques to use to make this wall-hanging version (52” x 52”). Learn the fast-track method to create and modify the block in two colorways. A simple flippy corner and a curve using machine applique transform this quilt with eye-popping results. The outside border is impressive but incredibly easy, as simple color placement allows it to float as it frames out the striking center! All fabric will be provided by Maywood Studio.

Meet the Expert: Angela Huffman

Angela Huffman lives in Louisville, KY where she owns and operates her quilting studio, longarm machine training center and APQS dealership. She is the co-host of the Love of Quilting national PBS television program, and a blue-ribbon winning quilt artist. Her instructional videos and online classes can be found at QuiltingDaily.com, APQS.com and her website, QuiltedJoy.com.

Her original patterns and quilting designs have been featured in a variety of magazines including Love of Quilting, QuiltMaker, Quilter’s Newsletter, Machine Quilting Unlimited, and On Track. She has been quilting for over two decades and is committed to making quilting easier for her students as she teaches both nationally and internationally. Angela is also a voice over artist, Emmy award-winning video producer and a proud mother of triplets.

I can’t wait to see everyone and talk about all the quilty things! I’ll be bringing some of my latest Love of Quilting quilt tops to share with everyone as well. Let’s spend a few days together with some belly laughs, quarter inch seams and a ton of fun! See you there!
