One of the hottest trends in 2018 in fashion was high-shine metallics. Gold, silver, rose-gold—metal was everywhere! Fashion headed toward the future in bright, shiny colors with lots of luster. While the fashion world is still talking about futuristic metallic styles, this trend is showing up in hair color, shoes, and home décor. We will no doubt be seeing this trend on the red carpet this award season.
So what does this have to do with quilting?
EVERYTHING! Did you notice that some machine companies debuted sewing machines decked out in gold and rose gold this year? Fabrics featured metallic shine showed up in quilt shops. Many of the award-winning quilts at International Quilt Festival in Houston this fall featured sparkling threads and Swarovski crystals.
Shine is in.
Quilting and sewing trends often mimic fashion trends. What we see debut at Quilt Market often reflects what we are seeing on the runways at Fashion week and the trends we see in home décor. Pay attention to what you are seeing in stores as you do your holiday shopping and you will definitely see the correlation.
This is the reason we chose to produce the Glam issue of McCall’s Quilting. The January/February issue is just in time for New Year’s and awards season – just when you need a little sparkle in your life.
From Metallic Fabrics . . .
. . . to metallic thread.
The quilt world often reflects (pun intended!) trends that we see in fashion and home décor. Why not add a little sparkle to your quilting as you settle in to watch the Oscars this year? It’s what all the cool kids are doing.
