Cutting Instructions
Background floral print
… 1A – 20 squares 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
… 1B – 2 squares 4 7/8″ x 4 7/8″; sub cut diagonally to make 4 half-square triangles
Gold
… 2C – 4 squares 3 5/16″ x 3 5/16″
Red print
… 3D – 1 square 6 3/16″ x 6 3/16″
… 3E – 8 rectangles 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″
Piecing the block
Step 1. Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of Piece 1A, background floral print squares. Using Diagram I as a guide, layer Piece 1A and Piece 3E red print rectangle, right sides together. Sew directly on top of drawn line. Cut away excess fabric 1/4″ from seamline. Press seam allowance toward arrow. Repeat for other end of rectangle. Make 8 Flying Geese units (Diagram only says 4, but you need 8).

Step 2. Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of Piece 2C gold square. Using Diagram II as a guide, layer Piece 2C on upper right corner of Piece 3D red print square, right sides together. Sew directly on top of drawn line. Cut away excess fabric 1/4″ from seamline. Press seam allowance toward gold. Repeat the steps for each corner of the square. Make 1.

Step 3. Using Assembly Diagram as a guide, piece units together to make rows. Piece rows together to make Gentleman’s Fancy block.
