My First Quilt | Sara Gallegos | Runtime (14 min)

Sara demonstrates how to make the I “Heart” You quilt block by Kelle Boyd from Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks volume 9 using template plastic and a pattern or a pre-cut Omnigrid heart-shaped template. This block uses two contrasting fabrics, and Sara shows how to align the template both with the seam vertically and horizontally. Havel’s applique scissors and snips have nice sharp points which are perfect for this project. Once the appliques are prepared, the next step is to position the hearts on the block’s background fabric. Fusible interfacing or basting spray can be used in this step. Sara then shows how to stitch down the heart to the background using a blanket stitch.
